Amongst the gloom of most of the news pages, it's good to be able to say something positive! I was up this morning again at the new Community Football Academy opened a few months ago by local football club Spartans FC. Going along there at the weekend and seeing the hundreds of children (and some older!) playing football at what is one of the best community football facilities in Scotland restores your faith in what can be achieved if a few people with vision and leadership are determined to do something. I know that Spartans - a club, not a business - promised they would make the Academy a real asset for the community - and they have certainly done that, and I know that hundreds more young people from the local North Edinburgh community have been taking advantage of the new facilities. And in return, Spartans are now seen by more and more people in North Edinburgh as 'their' local team.
Unfortunately, my son's team didn't do so well - again! - but it didn't seem so bad, when you have a good pitch, decent changing rooms and facilities, instead of the awful pitches, uncut grass, and disgusting huts which too many youth (and older) football teams in Edinburgh have to cope with.

hmm, one wonders if ML was an opposition MP in the week when unemployment hit its highest in 12 years he'd be posting about amateur football grounds in edinburgh.
Hmm in the last month the only post about the economy is one moaning about goodwins pension. A pension which was signed off by the labour government.
And why not ? After all after goodwin just about the most generous pension scheme in the country is the one the MP's have voted themselves.
Of course, if you look at my website www.marklazarowicz.org.uk you'll find plenty of information about support for the unemployed - much better under this Labour government than under either the Tories in the past or SNSP Scottish government at present - one of which party I presume you support!
Anyway, the post wasn't essentially about football - it was about community endeavour!
"community endevour" ?
Which is no doubt labour speak for 'pay for my porn'.
But we arent talking about the tory government of 1996 are we?
We're talking about the disastrous ,and i do think you're cant disagree about it, the monstrously incompetent labour party in 1997-2009
So when you and yours are sticking your snouts in the trough and denying any responsibility when unemployment is now higher than when you came to power
After all when the home secretary is billing the taxpayer for 88p plugs and £1000 fire places then why should we regard the labour party as anything other than cheap scum out to stick their snouts in the trough
And given how you voted for the
"Legislative and Regulatory Reform Act 2006"
lets have no nonsense about how you're proud of parliament. You are just a another cheap piglet sticking your snout in the trough.
And as time runs out you're now grabbing whatever cash you can get.
Of course at least we're still up on the iraqis. After all the labour party has butchered 100,000's of them.
