Ed was the right choice

We now have our new Labour leader, Ed Miliband, elected by a whisker. I was one of those who supported Ed right from the start, and I think he is going to be a very good leader for Labour. I say that not just because of his policies, but also because I know from having seen Ed at meetings with all sorts of local groups and communities - Labour Party members, environmental activists, general members of the public - that he is an incredibly good communicator. I think that will come through over the next few years up until the UK general election, and could well be an important factor in that vote.

How do you feel about the GMB's "creative" treatment of the leadership election rules?

I understand* that party rules state that no literature in support of individual candidates can be included in the ballot envelope.

Interesting, then, that they sent out its members their ballot papers in an envelope clearly endorsing Ed - "on" the ballot envelope rather than "in".

I think it makes for a pretty shabby looking victory, considering he only squeaked through with those union votes (I'm sure I needn't remind you that Labour's MPs and MEPs, along with actual party members, preferred David)...

Without getting into details of how Ed Milliband was elected - I'm not a member of the Labour party - I have to say I am quite pleased by his election.

At the General election, Labour's record on Iraq and civil liberties made me think twice about voting Labour. Ed Milliband's statements on Iraq and civil liberties are therefore significant to me.
