Inverleith Park sell-off opposed

I've received a copy of the latest submission from Friends of Inverleith Park against the proposed sell-off of part of the park for housing. It certainly seems a retrograde step to me - Inverleith Park is enjoyed by thousands of people from many parts of the city. I know that the sell-off is planned for an area which is not part of the main park, but it could still be the thin end of the wedge for what in better times could be seen by the Council as a very lucrative development opportunity. I'd be very interested in local views about this.

It's fairly unclear from the link, but am I right in thinking that the area under discussion can be seen on Google Maps here: http://goo.gl/biP0N

And it's basically the brownish bit that has a several parked vehicles on it (one red and four white are particularly prominent), plus three small roofed buildings towards the south?

If so, and it's not to encroach upon any of the surrounding green fields (Grange Cricket Club, Edinburgh Academicals FC), then it really doesn't seem that bad a proposal. It appears to be screened off from the main park by mature trees on the south and west sides, and obviously isn't really a part of the park that the public use at present.

But it would definitely help to have a clear illustration of what's planned - and what other use might possibly be made of it; if it's a redundant depot that will otherwise be left to the weeds...
