Japan's tragedy
It's difficult to find words to express your feelings when you watch the TV pictures of the tsunami wave and its continuing aftermath. Seeing the giant wave inexorably moving towards buildings and vehicles, knowing that people will be about to be swept up in its power, is a horrible sight. Of course, there are other horrors taking place in the world every day - and there will no doubt be renewed concerns about civil nuclear power and a wide range of other issues - but today I just want to put on record my deepest sympathy for the people of Japan and what they have been and are going through.

I agree Mark, it feels so inadequate to express feelings from such a distance but it is impossible to watch the images from Japan without trying to imagine what it must be like – and also for those with friends and family caught up in the disaster.
